Job Description Summary

Onondaga Community College is a two-year college located on a 280-acre campus in Syracuse, NY. OCC operates under the State University of New York (SUNY) system and is locally sponsored by Onondaga County. Bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees are available on campus through the Regional Higher Education Center. OCC has been named a “Military Friendly” school by G.I. Major Responsibilities

Strong candidates will offer demonstrated success in at least some of the following areas:

-Development and delivery of content and learning activities for traditional face-to-face classes;

-On-campus availability for student support;

-Technology to enhance learning;

-Outcomes assessment;

-Working with diverse populations of students, especially underrepresented students;

-Academic advisement.

Minimum Qualifications

-Bachelor’s degree in Health Information Management from a regionally accredited college or university;

-Faculty rank and salary is determined by years of experience and education. To enter at the Instructor level, three (3) or more years work experience and at least 18 credits in graduate education in a relevant field is required; Assistant Professor rank requires three or more years work experience and at least 30 credits in graduate education;

-Registered Health Information Administrator credential and active membership status with the American Health Information Management Association;

-Three (3) years of experience within an HIM department with an electronic medical record;

-Previous college teaching experience or presenter at a professional conference. Please attach a course or conference teaching outline under the required documents section, “Teaching Philosophy”.

Preferred Qualifications

-Completed Masters in Health Information or Health Informatics; Health Care Administration; Business Administration; Technology Management or Education with minimum of 18 credits in Health Information/Informatics from a regionally accredited college or university preferred. Achieving tenure (can be applied for in the 4th year of employment) will be contingent on successful completion of Master’s degree program in a related field.

-Dual AHIMA credential;

-Designation as an AHIMA approved ICD-10-CM/PCS trainer or 2 years coding acute care with ICD-10-CM/PCS.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Candidates must demonstrate excellence in teaching, flexibility in instructional delivery, active professional development/life-long learning, experience in student advisement, curriculum development, service to college and community, and a commitment to working closely with undergraduate students in small-class settings in a dynamic and diverse/multicultural college environment.

Must be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of products.
